CUBE COMPACT OR FOLD: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
A small e-bike can be surprisingly practical. It is agile, takes up less space, and is easy to adjust to different riders thanks to the adjustable handlebars and saddle. CUBE has two models for this: the Compact Hybrid and Fold Hybrid. They look quite similar, but are intended for different types of use. Which one suits you best? In this blog, we take a look at the differences.
CUBE Compact Hybrid
The name says it all: the CUBE Compact Hybrid is a full-fledged electric bike in a compact size. The 20-inch wheels make the bike agile and ensure that it takes up less space than a standard e-bike.
In the new 2027 collection, the Compact Hybrid is equipped with a Bosch Performance motor and a 540 Wh battery. The battery is located behind the seat tube, keeping the center of gravity low and central. The adjustable handlebar and seat post also make it easy to adapt the bike to different riders. The Compact features a low-maintenance belt drive, five Shimano Nexus gears, and an integrated rear carrier, allowing you to easily bring extra luggage. In total, this bike weighs 24 kg. The most important thing to keep in mind: the Compact is small, but not foldable.
Choose the Compact Hybrid if...
...you are looking for an agile, compact e-bike, but do not need a folding bike. The Compact takes up less space than a standard e-bike and is therefore handy if, for example, you have a smaller storage room or garage. In addition, it is slightly lighter and you save €500 compared to the Fold.
CUBE Fold Hybrid
Do you want to make your bike as small as possible? That is where the CUBE Fold Hybrid comes in. The major difference lies in the folding mechanism. With the push of a button, you can fold the frame to create a package of approximately 90 × 60 × 75 cm that weighs 25.6 kg. For 2027, CUBE has updated the folding mechanism and made the carrying handle more ergonomic. This makes the Fold even more practical if you want to transport or store it regularly. Here, too, you get electric assistance from a Bosch Performance motor with a 540 Wh battery. The handlebars and saddle are height-adjustable without tools. According to CUBE, the one-size geometry is suitable for riders from approximately 1.60 to 1.90 meters. The Fold Hybrid Deluxe also features a low-maintenance belt drive and a Shimano Nexus 5-speed gear hub. The integrated rear carrier is included as standard so you can carry some luggage, and a front carrier can optionally be added to the electric folding bike.
Choose the Fold Hybrid if...
...saving space is really important to you. For example, because the bike needs to fit in a camper, caravan, or car, or because you have little storage space at home. You pay more for the folding mechanism, but you get a significantly smaller transport size in return.
Compact or Fold: which one suits you?
The difference is ultimately quite simple: the Compact Hybrid is compact, lower in price, and slightly lighter; the Fold Hybrid is compact and foldable.
Do you have enough space to transport the bike as a whole and are you mainly looking for a small, agile e-bike? Then take a look at the CUBE Compact Hybrid.
Does the bike need to take up as little space as possible in a camper, caravan, or car? Then the CUBE Fold Hybrid has a clear advantage with its folding mechanism.
Whichever you choose: both models are made to pack a lot of bike into a relatively small space. Ideal for at home, but certainly also for when the bike goes with you on holiday.
