THE ULTIMATE CYCLING HOLIDAY PACKING LIST: WHAT TO TAKE ON A CYCLING HOLIDAY?
Cycling for days through forests, along rivers or through picturesque villages: a cycling holiday guarantees adventure and freedom. But that also means: being self-sufficient. Good preparation is therefore key. What do you take with you? How do you ensure that you do not pack too much (but certainly not too little)? In this blog you will find the ultimate packing list and our favourite products that will really help you on your way.
Pack smart: the right bicycle bags are worth their weight in gold
One of the most important choices for a cycling holiday: your panniers . They need to be sturdy, able to withstand a knock or two and preferably waterproof, because a heavy shower is part of it. Luckily, at CUBE Stores we have exactly what you need:
- ACID Panniers Travlr PRO 20/2: These spacious panniers (40 liters total!) offer space for clothes, camping gear, food and more. Thanks to the integrated drag and click system, they are super easy to remove and reattach.
- ACID Panniers Travlr Front 6 FILink: This compact 6-liter front pannier is perfect for lighter items or items that need quick access. Think of a rain jacket, extra snacks or a first aid kit.
- ACID Top Tube View CMPT: This top tube bag is ideal for your phone, route map or energy bars. Thanks to the transparent top pocket you can easily navigate while riding. Fits perfectly on every type of frame and stays in place.
Tip: Try to distribute your luggage evenly over the bike. Heavier items at the bottom, frequently used items on top.
What to wear: Functional, light and layered
When it comes to clothing, it's all about smart combinations. Choose breathable materials that dry quickly and bring clothes that you can layer:
- Cycling shorts with comfortable seat pad
- Cycling jerseys (short and long)
- Wind and rain jacket
- Thermal shirt or fleece for colder mornings
- Quick-drying underwear and cycling socks
- Casual set of clothes for evening or a day of rest
Trouble on the road? Not with these tools
Even the best bike can have problems along the way. That's why a compact toolkit is essential:
- RFR Multi Tool 12: A robust and versatile multi-tool with 12 functions. Tighten nuts, adjust your brakes or correct a wheel that is out of alignment – all with one tool that fits in your bag or pocket.
- Spare inner tubes , tire levers , a mini pump and chain oil are also included. Little effort, great convenience.
Bonus: bring some zip ties, tape and a piece of string. Old school, but essential for small repairs or creative solutions on the road.
First Aid: Small but essential
A plaster or bandage can make the difference between continuing or dropping out, so always make sure you have a first aid kit with you.
- ACID First Aid Kit CMPT: Compact size, fits perfectly in your handlebar bag or side pocket. Equipped with all the basics such as plasters, gauze, disinfectant and a rescue blanket.
- ACID First Aid Kit PRO 29: A little more space and content? Then go for the PRO version. Ideal for longer trips or when you travel as a couple. This kit includes scissors, tweezers, more wound care and extra bandages.
Better safe than sorry!
Navigate & stay reachable
- ACID Mobile Phone Mount HPA Ahead: This sturdy phone holder ensures that you can navigate safely. Suitable for almost all smartphones and ideal to combine with navigation apps such as Komoot or Google Maps.
- CUBE Cycle Computer PRO LITE: Don't feel like having your phone on your handlebars? This compact bike computer gives you information about speed, distance, riding time and more at a glance. Ideal if you want to keep an overview without distractions.
Tip: always bring a power bank and charging cable. Solar chargers are extra handy when cycling in remote areas.
Food, drink and camping
If you are going camping or riding longer distances, also consider:
- Reusable water bottles or a drinking system
- Lightweight gas burner, pan and spork
- Quick snacks such as nuts, energy bars or bananas
- Camping equipment: tent, sleeping mat and sleeping bag (lightweight and compact)
Plan your overnight stays smart and check campsites or B&B's in advance. And always take a small emergency ration with you, you never know what you will encounter on the way.
Check, check, double check
Test your pack before you leave with a test drive. Is anything rattling? Is everything stable? This will prevent surprises when you are actually on the road.
