E-bikes are popular, but unfortunately also vulnerable to theft. Fortunately, many CUBE e-bikes are equipped with Bosch's smart system. Bosch eBike Systems takes the next step in theft protection with smart, digital features in the eBike Flow app. No traditional lock, but a digital lock for the motor and battery that makes stealing and reselling your bike much more difficult.
This new security feature is available for e-bikes with the Bosch Smart System and therefore also for many CUBE e-bikes.
Digital security: how does it work?
The new features work entirely through software and are linked to your personal Bosch account in the eBike Flow app. In this app, you connect your bike to your phone. This gives you insight into your statistics and routes, and now you can also use it to lock your e-bike.
eBike Lock
With eBike Lock, the motor automatically locks digitally as soon as you turn off the bike. Without your smartphone or the paired display, motor assistance is not possible. So a thief can still ride away, but only without assistance.
Battery Lock (new)
Bosch is expanding this with Battery Lock: a digital battery lock. If a locked battery is stolen and installed in another (Bosch) e-bike, the motor support will not work. This makes a loose battery practically unsellable and therefore even less attractive to sell. Note: This feature is only available with the paid Flow+ subscription.
Mark bicycle as stolen
Despite these new features, has your bike (or battery) still been stolen? Starting in early 2026, you can immediately mark your e-bike or battery as stolen in the Flow app. If the bike is linked to a different account, a warning will appear and certain functions will be blocked.
Is your CUBE e-bike suitable?
Bosch's new digital anti-theft protection only works on e-bikes with the Bosch Smart System. Older Bosch systems do not support the eBike Flow app or these features. Many recent CUBE e-bikes, such as the Supreme Hybrid, Editor Hybrid, and Kathmandu Hybrid, are equipped with this Smart System and can benefit from the new protection via software updates.
This is how you can tell if your CUBE e-bike has the Bosch Smart System:
Well Bosch Smart System
- Can be connected to the Bosch eBike Flow app
- Equipped with LED Remote, System Controller, Kiox 300/500 or Purion 200
- Equipped with a recent Bosch engine such as Active Line, Performance Line or Performance Line CX (Smart System)
No Bosch Smart System
- Works with the old Bosch eBike Connect app
- Has an older display such as Intuvia, old Kiox or Purion without a number

Supplement, not replacement
Digital security doesn't replace a physical lock, but it does provide a powerful additional layer of security. By blocking your bike's motor and battery via the app, a stolen e-bike simply becomes much less attractive. So, continue securing your electric bike with a regular (chain) lock. The ACID Chain Lock is a sturdy chain lock with ART2 certification, suitable for your bike.
