Bicycle Pedals - What Types Are There?

There are four categories of bicycle pedals: platform pedals, clipless pedals, toe-clip pedals, and hybrid pedals. Platform pedals are the most common and provide a flat surface for the foot to rest on. Clipless pedals increase power and efficiency by securely attaching the foot to the pedal. What size pedals do I need?

What distinguishes SPD from SPD-SL?
